He has produced 21 of the 37 plays in Shakespeare‘s canon since 2006 at The Drilling Company’s Shakespeare in the Parking Lot. He founded The Drilling Company in 1999. World premieres include Gabriel: A Polemic , The Norwegians, (NY Times Critics; pick), Atomic Farmgirl (all by C.Denby Swanson), Home of the Great Pecan, Reservoir, Wild Children, Over the Line and Mutant Sex Party, NY Premieres: El Viaje de Beatrice, Bird Brain, Apple among others and has commissioned, developed and produced over 350 new short plays in 21 themed projects celebrating playwrights of social conscience, Actor select film/TV credits include: Blue Bloods, Bull One Dollar, Wizard of Lies, Billions, Bridge of Spies, Burn After Reading, American Gangster. He has received two SAG/Ensemble Awards as a cast member of Orange is the New Black on Netflix.

He has also directed new short plays and a Bryant Park production of Romeo and Juliet for The Drill. Other NYC Off-B’way and Indie Theatre performances include new plays at New World Stages, 4th St. Theater, the Fordham Moot Court and many others. Regional highlight was "Take Me Out" at The Human Race Theater in Ohio. TV spots include episodes of Law & Order, Nova Science Now and all the old Soaps. Drew Valins (playwright) is always so so happy to be onstage with the Drilling Company, which is an artistic home. As a company member, he has performed in and directed many plays. Favorites include PUCK IN MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM, IAGO IN OTHELLO, AND BOTH ANTIPHOLUSES IN COMEDY OF ERRORS. With the Alliance for New Music Theatre, in Washington, DC, Drew played Vaclav Havel’s alter ego, Vanek, in PROTEST, UNVEILING, and the original musical VANEK UNLEASHED. Drew’s solo work is called FRANZ FRAGMENTS, a sprawling endeavor in which Drew theatrically probes various works of Franz Kafka, which has appeared on numerous stages and alternative spaces. Highlights include A REPORT TO AN ACADEMY and FRANZ/DREW (nominated for best actor and playwright in the Midtown International Theater Festival, NYC). Summer 2024, he’ll be premiering his own original adaptation of Kafka’s THE BURROW at the Czech Embassy as part of Kafka’s Centennial. In September 2024, Drew’s play LAKEPLAY will have its World Premiere at the Wild Project in the East Village, NYC. FILM/TV: BULL (CBS), and “2050” an upcoming film. With Shakespeare in the Parking Lot (now entering its 25th year as a New York City institution) and Bryant Park Shakespeare in the heart of Manhattan, TDC is the second-largest FREE Shakespeare producer in NYC, reaching over 10,000 patrons each summer.
Through world premieres, the TDC Discovery Series and the ShortPlay Projects, the company has offered the development and production of countless new works since 1999.
